Samuel, Social Justice and Conflict

This week, we begin a new sermon series on the book of Samuel.  You may ask yourself how Samuel is relevant to my life today. We will explore this more in the next few weeks, but here is a sneak preview. The book of Samuel provides profound insights into human nature, governance, justice, faith, and societal dynamics that resonate with the challenges and aspirations of the modern world. 

The characters in Samuel's books features complex and human characters who deal with jealousy, loyalty, betrayal, and forgiveness. These themes resonate with universal aspects of human nature and show us the right and wrong ways of addressing internal and external conflict. 

The books of Samuel are a beacon, shining a light on justice and morality in governance and personal conduct. The narratives underscore the significance of righteousness and accountability in society, inspiring us to uphold these values in our own lives.

In addition, Samuel contains themes of social justice, such as caring for the marginalized and oppressed. These themes can be applied to contemporary poverty, discrimination, and human rights issues.

Lastly, Samuel deals with everyday issues facing humanity, such as infertility, conflict, power, and governance. Through these stories, we can find hope and encouragement for individuals and societies dealing with struggles, failures, or crises.

I hope you will join me as we explore a book of the Bible often left unexplored and overshadowed.

Knowing When to Walk Away

I sometimes wonder why I write these posts. Often, I write them because I need a reminder of how to be a better person. Sometimes, I need this more than others, and this is one of those posts to remind me to be a better person. Self Compassion

This week hasn't been easy for me. I've been battling a pesky virus, which makes even the smallest tasks challenging. I feel a bit guilty about missing work and letting people down. I tend to be pretty hard on myself. I always strive to be the best version of myself, so when I fall short, I feel disappointed. However, when I see someone struggling or feeling unwell, I’m quick to offer them kindness and understanding. It’s amusing how we can be so much kinder to others than to ourselves. Self-compassion can be a tricky subject. If we indulge in it too much, we risk becoming self-absorbed.
