Happy Easter

As we approach the sacred time of Easter, I find myself reflecting on the significance of Good Friday and the profound message it carries for us all. In the Christian tradition, Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, a moment of deep sorrow and suffering, but also a testament to the transformative power of love and redemption.

I recognize that the Easter story may hold varying meanings for each of us. Yet, it continues to offer profound insights into the human experience and the enduring pursuit of justice, compassion, and hope.

As we conclude Holy Week, I hope you will pause to contemplate the themes of sacrifice, forgiveness, and renewal that resonate throughout the Easter narrative. In a world often marked by division and strife, may we draw inspiration from Jesus's example of radical love and solidarity with the marginalized and oppressed.

Traditionally, Maundy Thursday is a time to wash, feed, and reenact the last supper. However, Rev. Erin and I wrote a different kind of Maundy Thursday service, one that contemplates how Jesus must have felt as he sat in the garden of Gethsemane, contemplating his life, his ministry, and his journey. Please consider joining us tonight at Scarboro United Church in their garden at 7:00. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

Good Friday is a day we often avoid. It can bring up so many difficult emotions and unanswered questions. However, I think it is a necessary step on this journey to Easter. This year, Wild Rose United Church, St. David’s United Church, and Northminster United will join us to reflect on Jesus's death. The service will be held at Parkdale at 10:30 a.m. Coffee and hot cross buns will be served starting at 9:30 a.m.

As we look forward to Easter Sunday, let us anticipate a celebration of resurrection and new beginnings. It is a time to reaffirm our commitment to building a more just and equitable world where all are valued and embraced for who they are.

Easter Sunday is not merely a religious observance but a reaffirmation of our shared humanity and collective journey toward greater understanding and compassion. Let us unite in fellowship and joy, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness and the promise of renewal in our lives and communities.

I invite you to our Easter Sunday service, where we will gather as a community to reflect, rejoice, and renew our commitment to creating a world guided by love, compassion, and justice.

Wishing you all a blessed Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and a joyful Easter Sunday.

Blessings

Rev. Kim
