Curiosity and Wonder
Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Last year, on the first Sunday of Epiphany, the congregation had the opportunity to choose Star Words. I chose the word "wonder." When I chose the word, it felt like an opportunity to dream big, to invite hope into my life and this church, and to be curious about where God was calling me to lead Parkdale.
Reflecting on this year, I believe it has been full of wonder. We pondered how to attract more families, so we created a Sunday School wing, and we grew. We contemplated how to make better use of the Sanctuary so it would be utilized more than just on Sundays, and we renovated the stage; this month, it has been alive with music. We considered how we could optimally use the basement’s education wing, and we found a perfect partner. We are proud to announce that Mosaic Montessori will open at full capacity starting in January. Now, I am curious about what it will be like not to have a deficit in 2024. I wonder how we can do more for this world with our ministry.
This year has taught me to keep questioning and wondering about Parkdale’s place in this city and in the world. It has prompted me to consider the future of the church, not negatively but with curiosity. I wonder what it would be like to have a space where everyone who enters feels safe and welcomed. I wonder what it would be like to have our sanctuary filled with people not just on Sunday mornings but several times a week. I wonder what I can do to help your faith grow. I wonder how I can demonstrate that spirituality is important and needs nurturing.
So, I invite you this Christmas and throughout the New Year to a place of curiosity and wonder. Dream about your future and the future of Parkdale in a positive, curious way. Wonder how Parkdale can make this world a better place. Wake up each morning and choose to do one thing that will make this world a better place.
Many blessings this Christmas season
With Love Rev. Kim
